Mentoring a Stars and Stripes Candidate
One of the great honors of recent days has been mentoring a Stars and Stripes candidate in American Heritage Girls (AHG). This experience has been such a blessing—getting to know her family, working alongside her, and watching her blossom as a leader has been truly inspiring.
For those who might not be familiar, the Stars and Stripes Award is the highest achievement in AHG, similar to the Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts. It requires a girl to demonstrate exceptional leadership, dedication to her faith, and a commitment to service through a significant project that benefits her community. This award is a reflection of everything AHG stands for: faith, service, and fun.
The candidate I’ve been mentoring is truly rising to the occasion. One of her recent milestones was leading her work day, a key part of her Stars and Stripes project. Watching her plan, organize, and confidently guide others was incredible! It was a proud moment for her, her family, and for me as her mentor.
This came after a full week of serving at the Field of Honor in Georgetown, Texas. The Field of Honor is an awe-inspiring tribute that features rows upon rows of American flags, each dedicated to a hero. It’s a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by veterans, first responders, and others who have served our country and communities. Volunteering at this event gave my mentee a unique opportunity to serve with humility and gratitude, connecting her leadership journey with a deeper sense of patriotism and faith.
I’m so proud of the hard work she’s putting into her project and the growth I’ve seen in her along the way. Mentoring a Stars and Stripes candidate has been a gift—a chance to invest in the next generation of godly leaders. If you ever have the opportunity to guide or support a girl working toward this prestigious award, I highly recommend it. It’s a blessing you won’t forget!
