Day 6: Give Yourself Grace – God Knows Your Season

Motherhood is an ever-changing journey filled with seasons—some are overflowing with energy and joy, while others can feel exhausting and overwhelming. If you’re in one of those seasons where spending long, uninterrupted time with God feels impossible, you’re not alone. And here’s the good news: God knows exactly where you are.

In this post, we’ll explore the importance of extending grace to ourselves as moms. It’s easy to feel like we’re failing spiritually when we can’t have the same devotional time we once did, or when our prayers feel rushed. But God isn’t measuring your faith by the length of your quiet time or the number of chapters you read. He’s after something much deeper—He’s after your heart.

God’s Grace is Bigger Than Our Failures

First and foremost, we need to remember that God’s grace is abundant. He doesn’t look at us with frustration or disappointment when our prayer time gets interrupted by a crying baby or when we fall asleep during Bible reading because we’re simply too exhausted. Instead, He meets us with compassion and understanding.

God’s grace is bigger than our feelings of failure. He knows the season of life we are in—whether we’re up all night with a newborn or juggling multiple children’s schedules. Psalm 103:13-14 says, “As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.” He knows your limitations, and He never asks for perfection. He simply asks for your heart.

The Trap of Guilt and How to Let Go

One of the biggest struggles moms face is guilt. We feel guilty when we don’t get enough done in a day, guilty when we don’t spend enough time with our kids, and yes, guilty when we don’t feel like we’re doing “enough” spiritually. But living in guilt is not God’s desire for us. He offers us freedom and grace, not condemnation (Romans 8:1).

Letting go of guilt means embracing the truth that God is not keeping score. He’s not waiting for us to check off every box or spend a certain amount of time in prayer before He’s pleased with us. He loves us unconditionally.

If you only have five minutes to sit in His presence today, He delights in those five minutes. If your prayers are whispered as you move through the chaos of the day, He hears them. God’s love for you isn’t based on your performance—it’s based on who He is and who you are as His child.

Grace for Yourself as a Busy Mom

When life changes, our routines need to adjust too—and that includes our spiritual routines. In this busy season of motherhood, it’s okay if your quiet times with God look different than they did before. Maybe you used to have hours to read and pray, but now you only have short moments scattered throughout the day. That’s okay. God is not bound by time, and He can meet you in those small moments just as powerfully as He did in the longer ones.

Here are a few practical ways to give yourself grace during this season:

  1. Redefine What Quiet Time Looks Like
Instead of expecting your devotional time to look like it did before kids, embrace a new definition of connecting with God. Whether it’s listening to Scripture on audio while making breakfast or reading a verse during nap time, these moments count.

  2. Focus on Quality Over Quantity
It’s not about how much time you spend with God—it’s about the quality of your connection. Sometimes a heartfelt prayer whispered in the midst of a busy day can have more impact than a lengthy, distracted quiet time.

  3. Release the Pressure for Perfection
God isn’t looking for perfection. Release the pressure to do everything “just right” and trust that He is with you, working in your heart, even when things feel messy or incomplete.

  4. Remember the Season You’re In
This is a season, and like all seasons, it will pass. Your devotional life may look different right now, but that’s okay. There will be future seasons where you’ll have more time and energy to devote to long stretches with God. For now, embrace the beauty of the season you’re in and trust that God is sustaining you through it.

God is After Your Heart, Not Your Performance

Ultimately, God isn’t after a perfect routine or an unbroken track record of quiet times. He’s after your heart. He wants to meet you in the middle of your everyday life, in the chaos, the noise, and the exhaustion. He’s there, waiting for you with open arms, ready to pour His grace over you.

In this season of motherhood, it’s about staying connected to God in whatever way you can, trusting that He will meet you where you are. Whether that’s a quick prayer while folding laundry, a whispered thanks before bed, or a verse read on the go—God cherishes every moment you spend with Him.

Conclusion to the Series
