How Moms Can Biblically Rest (Part 2)
In Part 1, we explored the importance of understanding biblical rest and the value of community through mom’s nights out. Now, let’s dive into more ways moms can find rest and renewal, both spiritually and practically, by following biblical principles.
Ladies' Conferences: Spiritual Rest and Renewal
Another way moms can experience biblical rest is by attending ladies' conferences or retreats. These events are designed to pour into women spiritually, offering times of worship, prayer, and teaching that can refresh your soul. A few days away, surrounded by other women seeking God, can be a powerful way to reset and realign your heart with His purposes.
Isaiah 40:31 reminds us that “they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31, ESV). Attending a conference can feel like a mini-Sabbath, a time set apart to focus solely on God and yourself, without the distractions of home life. These experiences can leave you feeling spiritually uplifted and more equipped to serve your family with grace and love.
Sabbath Rest: Building Rest into Your Week
In the Old Testament, God commanded His people to observe the Sabbath, a day of rest and worship: “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God” (Exodus 20:8-10, ESV). While modern life can make it difficult to observe a full day of rest, we can still create mini-Sabbaths in our weekly routines. This could be an hour of quiet time on a Sunday afternoon, reading a devotional while the kids nap, or going for a walk alone to pray and reflect.
The key to Sabbath rest is intentionality—choosing to set aside time to rest and reconnect with God. As moms, we might need to be creative in how we do this, but even small pockets of time can make a big difference in how rested and grounded we feel.
Incorporating Rest into Homeschool Routines
For homeschooling moms, rest can sometimes feel elusive, but it’s vital to avoid burnout. A practical way to incorporate biblical rest is by creating restful rhythms within your homeschool day. This might include a quiet time for both you and your children, where everyone spends time reading, journaling, or simply resting. Homeschool co-ops and support groups can also offer much-needed fellowship and encouragement, helping you find a balance between teaching and personal renewal.
Additionally, don’t hesitate to delegate or take advantage of the flexibility homeschooling provides. On particularly busy weeks, scale back on lessons and prioritize rest as an essential part of your family’s routine. After all, we want to model to our children that rest is important, not just productivity.
Conclusion: Resting in God’s Presence
Biblical rest isn’t just about stopping our physical work; it’s about seeking God, finding renewal, and making time for community. Whether through mom’s nights out, ladies' conferences, or intentionally setting aside time for Sabbath rest, these practices allow us to rejuvenate both spiritually and emotionally. Moms, remember that rest is a gift from God—one we are meant to embrace without guilt.
When we rest, we are better able to fulfill our roles as mothers, wives, and daughters of God, serving from a place of strength and peace rather than exhaustion. As Psalm 23:2 reminds us, "He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters” (Psalm 23:2, ESV). Let’s allow Him to lead us into rest, trusting that He will restore our souls.
