A Full Day of Fun at Knock Knock Children’s Museum in Baton Rouge

If you’re ever in the Baton Rouge area with kids in tow, the Knock Knock Children’s Museum is a must-visit spot for hands-on fun, creativity, and imagination. We spent the entire day there—from opening at 10:00 a.m. to closing at 4:00 p.m.—and my kids were fully engaged every single minute.

Yes, it’s a little bit on the pricey side, especially for larger families like ours, but there were several perks that helped balance it out. One of my favorite features? You can bring your own food! There’s a lovely outdoor patio area where you can take a break, eat lunch or snacks, and recharge before heading back in for more exploring. We packed our own snacks, which made the day more affordable and allowed us to enjoy the full experience without rushing.

A Little Museum with a Big Mission

The Knock Knock Children’s Museum opened its doors in 2017 after years of planning and fundraising. It was born from a dream to create a place where children could learn through play—particularly children from under-resourced communities. Located in beautiful City-Brooks Community Park, the museum is designed to serve as a "learning zone" that inspires creativity and sparks curiosity through interactive, hands-on exhibits.

Favorite Exhibits from Our Visit

The museum features 18 different Learning Zones, each designed to stimulate a child’s natural desire to explore. Here are a few of our favorites:

  • The Little Grocery Store – This was a huge hit with my kids! They had so much fun pretending to shop for groceries, scan their items at the register, and even “pay” like grown-ups. Everything from the mini carts to the barcode scanner made it feel incredibly realistic. My girls went through several rounds of shopping and checking out—it was such a joy to watch them role-play and work together.

  • Pelican Pantry Café – A pretend restaurant where kids can cook, serve, and take orders. This was especially fun for my little ones who love playing chef at home.

  • Story Tree – A cozy, imaginative corner perfect for a bit of quiet time, reading, and storytelling. It’s designed to feel magical—just the right touch for encouraging a love of books.

Tips for Visiting

  • Arrive early. We got there right at opening, and it allowed us to explore before the crowd built up.

  • Pack snacks or lunch. The museum allows you to bring in outside food, which is a rare and welcome perk for families.

  • Plan to stay awhile. There’s enough to do to fill an entire day, especially if your kids like to revisit favorite spots (mine sure did!).

  • Wear comfortable shoes—you’ll be moving right along with your little explorers all day long.

This museum isn’t just a rainy-day activity—it’s a destination in itself. Whether you’re local or just passing through Baton Rouge, Knock Knock is a great spot to let your kids play, learn, and make memories.
